Chittlehampton was among those leading the early charge for North Devon’s VE Day 80 events as villagers gathered in the village hall for an afternoon party on Bank Holiday Monday May 5th. There was an excellent turn out and the ‘bring and share’ table was overloaded with a great variety of delicious food and plenty of drinks. Also on offer were free refreshments, displays of memorabilia and local press cuttings of the time and good old-fashioned war-time songs to listen to and, for some, bring back memories.
The occasion was a great opportunity for the community to dress up and come together to celebrate and reflect on, and for some remember, those simpler and harder times 80 years ago.
