More good news for the village!

We have been awarded a grant of £75,000 for the village hall from the Platinum Jubilee Fund which is the maximum that can be awarded. This is in addition to the £264,500 already awarded by the Government’s Community Ownership Fund. With the many generous donations from you, the community, and grants from smaller Trusts and Foundations, we have now raised £440,000 – a significant community achievement.

This will enable us to complete the most crucial and most costly of all the renovation work that the village hall desperately needs. We will install a brand new insulated roof, externally clad the walls (we have decided against cladding the old school kitchen extension) and install multi-glazed windows and external doors which will give us an up-to-date environmentally-friendly building as the first stage of renovation.

Discussions and negotiations are underway with Culmex, our preferred supplier, to agree the details of a JCT contract before work starts. The village hall will close as planned on 16th May and the renovation work starts on 3rd June lasting for a projected 16 weeks.

We are still in fund-raising mode though, and will be for a while. Our next priority is to re-cover the flat roof on the kitchen and reconfigure the electrics in the hall. This will be followed by installation of a fully equipped kitchen and modern heating and fire alarm systems, refurbishment of the toilets and changing rooms and installation of South-facing external decking as shown on the village hall plans.

We are going to be busy for quite a while.
